Brian Custer: Director of Academy Soccer

Brian Custer grew up in New Jersey, outside Atlantic City and has loved soccer ever since his family introduced the game in his family’s backyard. A NCAA Division I soccer at La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA Custer lead his team in the Atlantic 10 Conference. As a younger player, he enjoyed leading his teams at the club and high school levels. Since moving to the Baltimore area, he has continued to enjoy playing soccer at the club and recreational level.

Custer’s enthusiasm for coaching equals his passion for the game. He has coached soccer camps for many summers in South Jersey, eventually rising to Director of the Junior Soccer Academy at Richard Stockton College of NJ in the late 1990s-2004. During these early years of coaching he began to cultivate his expertise in instructional soccer, specifically for players 3-10 years of age. He has also coached multiple sports for LOUYAA for over the last 3 years, since his eldest child began playing organized sports.

Custer explains that “for our young players to excel, they must first be having FUN! [Custer’s] intent is to provide a program that rewards children by engaging them and stimulating their interest in the game, all the while encouraging them to achieve their very best.”

Custer’s practice plans provide maximal touches on the ball, and he believes that the game is usually its own best teacher. He prides himself on creating practice sessions that are high-energy with instructional learning games and activities, that allow young athletes to perfect their developing skills and tactical learning.

Coach Custer moved to the New Market, MD area in 2014 and enjoys his work as a pediatric Physical Therapist. He has been excited to continue his life in soccer and share the game with his 3 young children, this time starting in his own backyard.  Custer is excited to share his ideas and his approach for our young Alliance soccer fanatics as Director of Academy Soccer.
